Oh right back to RSVP, I asked so many people including my relatives, friends and teacher what RSVP stands for .. nobody can ever tell me what it stands for ! They would just answer me like this..
' Don't need to know so much in detail la.. As long as you know it means " Please reply " then it's good enough already '
This initial are almost always seen in invitation cards to parties or wedding receptions!
The problem here is not that nobody knows what it stands for.. but what is actually meant!
Now, instead of asking and waiting for someone to tell me what it means.. I should just give up and look through the internet! *aihh...*
For your information, the term R.S.V.P. comes from the French expression
"répondez s'il vous plaît"
If you happen to bump into an invitation with R.S.V.P. written on it, the host is trying to tell you that you must tell the him/her whether or not you plan to attend the party. It also does not mean to respond only if you're coming or neither if you're not coming. An addition of a note "Regrets Only" then, would mean to reply only if you're not coming.
Every host needs to do a head count to make sure that everyone has a seat and plentiful of food to eat and let not food go to waste.
So the next time you see R.S.V.P. on an invitation you receive, please call your host and respond promptly.
